1815 Established by Alex Johnston & Donald Johnston
1836 Donald Johnston sole ownership
1847 Walter Graham leased after death of Donald as his son Dugald was too young
1857 Dugald takes over
1877 Duglad dies leaving distillery to his sisters and brother in law
1921 Ian Hunter takes over
1923 2 new stills added
1954 Bessie Williamson inherits distillery
1960s Sold to Long John International
1990 Purchased by Allied Domecq
1994 Prince Charles visits and hands over Royal Warrant 
2005 Taken over by Fortune Brands Inc.
2014

Japanese group Suntory purchased Fortune Brands and merged the Beam and Morrison Bowmore businesses and now trades as Beam Suntory.

Laphroaig Distillery Comments
Use first-fill American bourbon casks.
Donald Johnston (founder) died after tumbling into a vat of part-processed whisky.
Own maltings on site.
Johnston name still appears on label.
