Bowmore Distillery History

1779	Distillery founded by John Simpson on the shores of Lochindaal.
1852	W & J. Mutter acquired the distillery.
1925	Sold to Sherrif’s Bowmore Distillery.
1950	Taken over by William Grigor & Sons Ltd.
1963	Sold to Stanley P. Morrison.
1994	Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd became part of Suntory of Japan.
2014	Suntory purchased Fortune Brands and merged the Beam and Morrison Bowmore businesses and now trades as Beam Suntory.

Bowmore Distillery Comments

One of the first legal distilleries on Islay.

Still operate traditional floor maltings.

One of the distillery’s warehouses was converted into the village swimming pool and is heated with waste heat from the distillery.

The pale colour bellies the character and flavour that this dram possesses. The peat reek is evident from the first whiff, and , although not as pronounced as some of its neighbours gives this great charm. The palate is salty sweet with a lovely long and refreshing finish.

Duncan Taylor Cask Strength Bowmore 1968 34 yr old
Gold, pale straw color. Classic Bowmore nose filled with smoky peat, sea salt, and iodine. Rich, woody, and complex with a long lingering malt finish intertwined with more sweet peat, an amazing finish!
