North Port Distillery History

1820 David Guthrie (local farmer) founded the distillery 1893 Became a limited company by the name of Guthrie, Martin & Co 1922 Taken over by Distiller Company Ltd (DCL) and W. H. Holt & Co, then acquired by Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. (SMD) and operated under licence by Mitchell Brothers of Glasgow 1928-1937 Silent 1983 Mothballed 1990 Sold for property development – site now hosts a Safeways supermarket
