‘Queen of the Moorlands? What’s that when it’s at home?’, you might well ask.
Well ‘Queen of the Moorlands’ is the local, affectionate name for the market town of Leek in Staffordshire, home to the inappropriately named, The Wine Shop. And the Queen of the Moorlands is also the label given to our award-winning range of whiskies.
These whiskies are unique and not simply because of the name. As far as we know, Queen of the Moorlands is the only range to be entirely selected and chosen by its customers. The Queen of the Moorlands Whisky Committee is the rather grandiose title bestowed upon a motley collection of bon viveurs, reprobates, hangers-on and, yes, whisky lovers. Every few months the committee gets together in a local den of inequity (you should see it) to cogitate, contemplate, pour over and, ultimately, digest a number of different wannabee whisky samples. And, like the juice man from Del Monte, only the finest get the regal nod of approval.
From humble beginnings, the Queen of the Moorlands range is quietly taking the world of whisky, if not by storm, then at the very least by a heavy downpour. Ranging from the Queen of the Moorlands Single Speyside malt through to more esoteric single Rare Cask bottlings, the findings of our committee seem to be meeting the approval of whisky lovers far and wide. The range is available via The Wine Shop website, our shop in Leek, as well as a growing number of retailers and whisky bars across the globe.
